Corporate Social Responsibility is a major part of our everyday business. Through our corporate engagement, we strive to fulfil our obligations to our employees, local community and the environment. Our impact on the environment and the way we deliver our products are vital to our presence. The environmental impact of the marine industry is now a major challenge for ship owners and ship builders. STX Europe aims to be the leading company in all areas of shipbuilding, with environment as one of the top priorities.
We possess a thorough awareness of the environmental impact of our activities and we are making continuous efforts to limit the impact. Focus areas in these efforts include: waste management, noise abatement, reducing emissions and constructing environmentally friendly vessels. We collect and sort waste at our shipyards to ensure that it is handled, disposed of and, where possible, recycled in an environmentally appropriate way. Hazardous waste and other sorted waste is collected and disposed of by waste management companies. Through our Environmental Performance System (EPS), our shipyards are able to monitor and record their usage of chemicals, disposal of waste and other metrics. We aim to recycle as much waste as possible, thus minimising waste delivered to landfills and incineration plants. Environmental status reporting is an integral part of the company’s annual reporting, on a par with reporting on finances and operations.
According to our strategy and our corporate responsibility, STX Europe must endeavour to stand out as the leading company in the green shipbuilding industry. Examples of this work include the Ecorizon and the Finish XPtray projects, which play a key role in our environmental strategy. Ecorizon aims to protect water and its ecosystems, preserve the natural resources of the Earth, limit the impact of human activities and project us towards the future, whilst the Xptray project focuses on multipurpose spaces, higher occupancy ratios, and new and improved technical solutions to ensure the lowest possible energy consumption by ships.
